Dr Shannon Boyce

Dr Shannon Boyce

Veterinarian & Owner

Dr. Shannon grew up with the Chaleur Bay and the beach right across from her home in northern New Brunswick. She has always had a love of nature, being outdoors and animals. One day when she was a young girl her grandfather came in from the barn, where he found Shannon and a friend treating his draft horse for thrush, and said to her grandmother “If that girl doesn’t grow up and be a vet I don’t know what she’s going to be.” Dr. Boyce graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2009. She worked in the Annapolis Valley as a mixed animal veterinarian for 2 years and then moved to Yarmouth where she practiced until 2015 when she and Dr. Sanford founded the Evangeline Animal Hospital. She enjoys practicing general veterinary medicine and surgery, especially with a dedicated and caring team who are always looking to improve their clinical knowledge and skills. With her love for puzzles and solving things, Dr Shannon’s favorite cases include complex internal medicine cases. For down time Dr. Shannon enjoys horseback riding, kayaking, hiking, camping, and reading. Along with her husband, Steven, Dr. Shannon shares her home with a menagerie of pets which include her dogs, cats, horses and pygmy goats.

Dr Ben Sandford

Dr Ben Sanford

Veterinarian & Owner

Dr. Ben grew up in the beautiful Annapolis Valley, NS which is not very far from Evangeline Animal Hospital. He has worked as far away as Manitoba and at the other end of the province (Baddeck, NS) before finally determining to settle down close to home and start this business venture with Dr. Shannon. He enjoys the great outdoors and all of the activities it has to offer, especially with his partner and kid. Growing up on a hobby farm it was always a dream of his to work with animals. His hard work and dedication got him accepted into the Atlantic Veterinary College and he has not looked back since! He has a great interest in veterinary surgery and takes pride in watching Evangeline Animal Hospital grow with a group of individuals who are as eager and interested in veterinary medicine as both he and Dr. Shannon are.

Sylvia Jordan

Customer Service Representative

Sylvia has been an active member of the Clare community since she was 17 and couldn’t imagine calling anywhere else home. She is a familiar face for many residents because she has worked with the public for over 24 years as a pharmacy technician before joining our team. Sylvia loves helping others and takes pride in providing excellent customer service. When not at the clinic she enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, especially her daughter and grandson. She also enjoys many different outdoor activities which include camping and snowshoeing. Sylvia shares her home with her husband and her active little dog, Penny.

Mikaela Marr

Registered Veterinary Technician

Mikaela grew up not too far from Evangeline Animal Hospital in Weymouth. Her love of animals, especially dogs, was apparent from a very young age when requesting Go, Dog! Go! be read so many times she nearly wore the book out. Mikaela’s interests and knowledge of animals and veterinary medicine grew as she completed 4-H projects in dog obedience and veterinary sciences. After graduating from Dalhousie University, Agricultural Campus, with a Bachelor of Science, Mikaela went on to successfully complete their Veterinary Technician program. She gained valuable skills and knowledge as a Registered Veterinary Technician while working for 2 years at Riverview Animal Hospital, an emergency clinic in Riverview, New Brunswick, before deciding to return home and join our team. With a love for putting the pieces together, Mikaela enjoys performing diagnostics tests and providing the information our veterinarians need to diagnose and treat their patients. She also enjoys working with and training her two Border Collies, Swift and Keltie, for agility and sheep herding.

Erin Purdy

Registered Veterinary Technician

Erin is a busy mom of two young boys, Noah and Connor, who also shares her home with her husband and their adorable pug, Potato. Erin grew up in Yarmouth and after graduating with a Bachelor of Music in piano from Mount Allison University she went on to the Dalhousie University Agricultural Campus and completed the Veterinary Technician program. Erin worked as a registered veterinary technician in Saint John, New Brunswick for 3 years before deciding to move home and joined the Evangeline Animal Hospital team. Erin enjoys helping the team provide the best possible care for our patients with compassion and empathy. Outside of the clinic she enjoys reading, playing the piano and spending quality time with her family especially at their cottage by the lake.

Kelly Amirault

Registered Veterinary Technician

Kelly grew up in Pubnico and although she did not grow up with furry critters of her own she fell in love with animals and knew since Grade 9 that she wanted to become a Registered Veterinary Technician. After graduating from the Veterinary Technician program at the Dalhousie University Agricultural Campus Kelly spent almost a year at Tri-County Veterinary Services before their closure. She joined our team in March of 2022 and has been a very valuable team member since! She loves learning new skills and continually growing as a professional. Some of her favorite appointments include puppy exams (who doesn't love puppies?!?!?) and she really enjoys helping the veterinarians in the operating room as well. Outside of the clinic Kelly is a very accomplished dancer who has been dancing since the age of 4! She started with jazz and lyrical and now really enjoys tap.

Oksana Tartarchuk

Veterinary Assistant

Oksana moved with her husband and children to Nova Scotia from Odessa, Ukraine. She sees Canada as a place of stability and the opportunity for a peaceful life. Oksana has quickly fallen in love with Nova Scotia because of the kindness of the people and the beautiful nature it provides. She enjoys spending time with her family and walking their dog, Bambi, in the park or along the promenade. Although her background is not in veterinary medicine she really enjoys working with such a great team and is proud to be a part of Evangeline Animal Hospital.
