The Evangeline Animal Hospital veterinarians use ultrasonography for viewing subcutaneous structures in your horse’s body, such as tendons, muscles, joints, vessels and internal organs. Sound waves are used to help create a visual picture without any invasive procedures. It is a very helpful tool for monitoring pregnancies and observing problems within soft tissues of the body. Ultrasonography can also be used to guide biopsy instruments to collect tissue samples, reducing the need for anesthesia or more invasive methods of acquiring the sample.
